and Ordering Procedures
Who do we sell to
We are wholesale/ distributors. We are not a retailer and
we are not the manufacturer!! The advantage of buying from the middle guy is that you do
not have to buy a large quantity of each item. We do that. When we order from our
suppliers majority of them have a minimum of 1000 lb order. In order that you are
able to have the variety of goods that we offer we are only asking for a minimum order
from you of $350.00. Some items weigh only 3 or 4 lbs most independent retailers
do not want 1000 lbs of that item.
We realize that this page is very detailed, if you take the
time to read it, it will answer most, if not all of the questions that you will
have.
We are very difficult to get on the telephone as we are
busy with customers in the showroom and filling orders for either pick up and or to be
shipped, all of which have time lines. Telephone tag with time zones across the country
and stores that are open short hours of different hours than when we can be calling, makes
for email being such an efficient method of communication. Not only do you get the answer
in writing to be able to refer back to but you get your answer most time on the same day,
as we can answer an email 24/ 7 but we cannot return calls 24/7 . You may be sleeping when
we are able to do phone calls.
We only sell to stores,
we do not sell to individuals
If you are looking for a candy you loved as a
kid, and are wanting to buy retail for personal consumption, we can not serve these needs,
What we can and will do for you is if you tell us what town and province you live in, we
will tell you what store in your area is a store we sell to, and thus will have the
products you are looking for, or will get it in for you to be able to purchase retail.
If you are a store, we would greatly appreciate
your business, we do have a very reasonable minimum orders which are discussed further
down this page.
It is very sad to say, but very true that
there are far too many candy distributors that offer specials and discounts that are
due to the fact that they buy and sell close out goods. At Old Time confections we do not
buy close outs. This means we do not buy old goods that are stale or past code, and we do
not buy stolen goods. Our goods are fresh, and from reliable manufacturers. A couple of
our items we sell are short dates from time of being made, but most have a very long
time for selling through. Cheap pricing on food items is not a deal if the goods are
stale. If a company offers you pricing that is too low or below market value, your alarm
should be going off to beware, of them and to beware of everything they sell. When you see
an item being offered at .20 cents that in the past was a .69 - 75 cent cost item, that
should tell you that likely the product is very very old. We at Old Time Confections will
never risk illness being caused to a person, due to irresponsible selling of goods that
should be in the trash can.
We never buy or sell close outs, that is
our assurance to you.
We do not have a hard copy catalogue to send out.
Our only catalogue is this Web-site
If you are a store and you want a price list
:
we need you to first tell us about your store,
it is simple,
we simply need you to email the following information to us:
- Your company name,
- kind of store
- owner's name
- authorized buyer's name or name's
-address including Province,
or state & Country, and postal code
-phone number
-FAX number.
-Email address
-vendors permit number
-web-site (if you have one)
- how long you have been in business
-tell us something about the kind of store you have, this helps
us make suggestions of products that may work for your store, (if you need us to make
suggestions that is)
Once we have all of this information from you we will
then,
reply to you with our FULL PRICE LIST
which does have pictures beside it.
Please note : We do not fax or snail mail
price list out, and our only catalogue is this web-site, that means we have nothing that
we can send you other than via email, and to be able to recieve this information
from us, we must get your store information as requested above.
If you are only interested in specific items
then you will need to indicate the items by name and we will quote just those items.
We still need to know your store information and contact information.
Once you have the price list, or quotes of only the items of
interest to you, you can then order by email by sending us a Visa or
Master Card number with the card holders name and the expiry number. Don't forget to give
us your full information as we will need everything to process and ship the order. Your
credit card information must be with the order in order to be invoiced, we can not invoice
without this information. If you have figured out your order you will know if
there is room on your credit card to be able to have it available for use immediately.
Telephone tag, and back and forth with emails will only delay the ordering process
time. The more complete your order is the faster you will receive it. We can
not call you for your credit card info as we do not take verbal orders and we need your
signature with the purchase order as authorization that we can us your credit
card. This is due to the fact that the credit card company demands that we have
signatures on file, therefore this is the only way we can offer shipping services.
ORDERS MUST BE IN WRITING, VIA
EMAIL,
info@oldtimeconfections.com
or Fax
705-725-8139
NO VERBAL ORDERS CAN NOT BE ACCEPTED.
(THIS IS PROTECTION FOR BOTH PARTIES THAT NO
MISUNDERSTANDINGS OR MISTAKES CAN BE MADE.)
please note :
The reason for our minimum is we find that enough of a
representation of a retro line will make the line do very well, if there is not enough of
a presentation then it will do average or not well at all. We want each customer that we
do business with, to be successful with our line and we want regular reorders then we will
both be able to do well together. We don't want to sell once to a customer, and have
them not do well with the line. We want to service the stores several times a year.
Candy is an item that sells 12 months of the year. The other reason for the minimum order
is if the shipment is very small the cost of shipping tends to be too much for the product
to absorb the cost of shipping into it. Candy is heavy and thus we have worked
very hard to get the shipping rates to be as low as possible. Goods are F.O.B.
Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
Our minimum order for each order is only $350.00
before gst and before shipping within Canada. we ship via Canada post, Canpar,
or Clarke transport, which ever is the least expensive for your destination. Each
policy we have is set with protection to the customer and ourselves that there is no room
for misunderstanding or error. We thank you for understanding this. We look forward to
possibly being able to offer our services of being a supplier of retro goods to your
store.
If you are outside of Canada our minimum order is $1000.00 and
All shipments are FOB Barrie Ontario L0L 2L0
When ordering be very careful that you know that:
A BOX IS ONE OF SOMETHING,
A CASE IS SEVERAL BOXES
therefore
IF YOU ORDER A CASE YOU WILL GET
ANYWHERE BETWEEN 10-12 BOXES OF 24 OR 36 COUNT boxes
This is to say, if you order a case you will be getting a lot of
that item If you only want the minimum order a box, you do not need to put a quantity
beside the item if it is one box, you only need a quantity if it is multiple boxes you are
in need of.
You must order the minimum count per item example we can not send
you 6 pez as each kind comes in 72's so that means 72 pez is the minimum per kind, so if
you are ordering 1 you will get 72 if you order 2 you will get 148 etc
Please do not fax us our price list as an
order form as it is 125 pages and growing, and therefore our fax machine can not handle
recieving a hundred pages of paper, with many pages possibly having only one or two items
on it.
Just get a blank page and type out or hand write out the items you
want.
Be sure all of your store information is on it, with phone, fax,
email address, ship to address, credit card info authorizing us to use the card (please be
sure there is room on the card to process the order) then begin the order Put a date that
it is required if it is for an event or function, other than that it will be looked at as
a asap order, meaning first come first serve as fast as we can work.
We need you to tell us how many boxes you want not how many units
you want.
We want to see an order such as
1 necco wafer
2 skittles gum
etc etc
not
72 necco wafer
2 skittles gum
12 lucky elephant
do not order 0 quantity of something, if you make an order
form of things you have decided is what you care and do not want some of those items with
an order then just simply remove them from your form as we may in error send you that item
because we see it on the paper.
etc
the reason for this is many retailers that order this way flip back
and forth between units and boxes and then we sometimes end up sending many more than you
want
ie
2 necco wafer
12 lucky popcorn
2 skittles gum
12 spiderman pop toppers
you would end up with 2 boxes of necco and 12 boxes of 12 lucky
popcorn
2 boxes of 14 skittles gum 12 boxes of 12 units of spiderman
pop toppers
when maybe you really only wanted 1 box of 12 lucky elephant and 1
box of 12 spiderman pop toppers. We do not always have to luxury of time to be able to
call to ask for interpretation of the order, so when ordering by the box it is so simple
for both sides.
We appreciate the opportunity to do business with the small
retailer. It is our promise that if you are a small retailer that decides that the
product line we have is what will work in your store and if you
stock enough of a variety of these goods to give your retail customer the ability to slip
back into when they were a child helping them to "remember those", then
you will make money from this product line. We fully understand that not every
store wants the hard to find goods, and therefore our line is not for everystore in
Canada, and therefore those that do take the line tend to do extremely will with it.
We want you to succeed with this line, it is your succeed that will create our succees.
Our only regret in this business is that some
things are hard to get, and on occasion we are out of stock of some things and can not
always get them quickly, due to the distance they come
or the lack of availability of them. Our promise to our customers is we will stock
everything on our list when we can get it, and yet because of this when it is not
available we can not be held responsible for lose of income to the retailer due to
unavailability. We are a distributor, we are not the manufacturer of any of these
imported goods. We do promise with the items that have become most difficult to get from
time to time, that we will send out a blind broadcast informing retailers of when those
items are available. If you want to be informed of these things please let us know and we
will put you on the list. We thank you in advance for your understanding in this area, and
we suggest that you stock up when we do have those items in stock.
Our promise of keeping costs down, we work on low margins and we
promise that we will do our best to maintain our prices and not have increases unless it
is impossible due to high price increases, when this happens we will inform you with
as much notice as we have.
In answer to the question:
With the dollar being at par with the American dollar when will you
be lowering your prices?
Please see an excert from a letter we recieved from a manufacturer
on Feb 23 2008, giving us the reasons for a 10% increase in their prices:
The letter read:
"Since August 2007, commodity costs, energy
costs (including transportation costs), and costs associated with manufacturing have
escalated by a substantial and rapid pace.
Corn syrup pricing is up by 20%. Cardboard increased by 6% and bag film is up 8%, plus
energy costs are up 10%. Domestic freight costs have increased 5% (exclusive of the
continually rising fuel charges)."
Since February 1 2008 we have been informed of price
increases from almost all manufacturers that we deal with some as low as a 10% increase
and others as high as 15% increase. It is for this reason we can not lower our prices
even though the american dollar is doing what it is doing and the canadian dollar is
strong, it is for that reason that even though we have recieved such increases that
we can maintain our pricing and not raise the prices of our goods sold to the retailer.
How long will it take to process your
order?
This really is a very difficult question as
there are so many variables. All orders are placed on a first come first serve basis.
If an order is a minimum order and we are out of stock of some of those things then
it will have to wait until they come in. If it is a larger order, and we are out of
stock of anything it will still go without the items we are out of. If that is the case it
could go out same day, it could go out next day, and yet it could take 3, we can only
promise that we work as fast as we possibly can and push orders out as quickly as it is
humanly possible to do so. We can not send an order out same day if it arrives in
late in the day, as orders are picked up at 4:00. There are times of the year we are
much busier than others. If you send in an order with a date on it of requesting it
leave a week later, then it will not go early, we can promise you that. But if you
order today, saying it has to leave today we can not promise that either, we suggest you
plan it could be an average 2 -3 day processing time, then the time it takes for shipping
will be added to that.
Damages that occur in shipping
When goods leave here they are in perfect
shape, and thus if there is a damage problem, we can not just take your word for it. You
will have to take a picture of the problem as well as you will have to show the product of
issue to a rep/ and or driver, and get there signature acknowleging that they
have seen the problem and occured during shipping. Due to the fact that things left
here in perfect shape it is not us doing any reimbursing. It will be the
courier company that needs to see proof, so proof is needed, this needs to be done within
24 hours of recieving the goods in bad shape.Shipping is at customer risk.

Christmas american - same as above but booking deadline

allowing for a turn around of 5-10 days that is for all british items except for curly

miss so don't include other british items in your order if your order is minimum order,
instead do them as a seperate order or understand that lead time is much longer.
At Old Time Confections we do
not buy close outs, we only sell things at fair market value, and if we don't
sell something fast enough, we are the ones that take the loss and dump it in the trash
bin.
This means we do not buy old
goods that are stale or past code, our goods are fresh.
Some items we sell have short dates
and that is only on the one or two items that even though we have still bought
fresh at the time of being made, yet they only have a short time to be
able to be sold. Again that is only one or two of our items, the rest of our line you will
have a very long time for selling through. Cheap pricing on food items is not a deal if
the goods are stale. If a company offers you pricing that is too low or below market
value, your alarm should be going off, both to beware of them and because of that too then
beware of everything they sell.
We at Old Time Confections will never
risk illness being caused to a person, due to irresponsible selling of goods that should
be in the trash can, and nor should you . We have seen other wholesalers marketing food
products at a recent show that are so old that the company that makes the goods are
haven't made those items for over 6 years. NOW THAT IS SCAREY!!!!! If an item
is being offered to you at a very low cost per unit, that need to be the signal to you
that the item is old and not worth buying, because in the long run it will only damage
your reputation.
We hope that it seeing this
over and over again that you see we are very serious about the point of not buying or
selling closeouts
We appreciate the opportunity to
do business with Canadian small retailers looking for hard to find retro candy products
with quality and a standard of excellence that they can be proud to sell.
